Saturday Spot Plays

Let’s look at a few spot plays today at Aqueduct and Gulfstream.

Gulfstream Race 7 (G3 Sugar Swirl) – #2 Miss Hollywood (6-1) goes out first time for Mark Casse and comes out of a turf sprint where she ran very well, forging a fast pace before getting caught on the wire by a deep closer. She has some solid dirt races and with any improvement for Casse, can upset #1 Dearest (6-5), who has a lot of layoff lines in here PPs and goes out today first time since July 1st.

Gulfstream Race 10 (G3 Tropical Turf) – #7 Blacktype (2-1) is the horse to beat and comes out of a race where he was taken too far back off the pace. He handles any type of going and a mile should fit him well. Still, his previous races featured him pressing a very slow pace and he’ll be a very short price and we want to try a longshot.

There should be a solid pace in here and #3 Le Ken (15-1) ships down from Tampa for Nacho Correas. After coming from Argentina, he made his US debut in the G2 Del Mar Mile, running fifth after breaking slowly. He then found the G1 Shadwell too deep and ran last time on dirt. Getting back to turf and finding his easies field since coming over to the US should suit him and John Velazquez should get to save some ground behind what should be a solid pace.

Among the other contenders, #1 Tower of Texas (6-1) is one we’ll use underneath but has to duplicate his top efforts going two turns on very firm turf. #2 Camelot Kitten (9-2) will be overbet going out for Chad Brown and we were never sure how good he was to begin with. #4 All Included (7-2) has run some decent races here but ran poorly in the Red Bank at Monmouth, where something probably went wrong, and he is about to turn seven. We want to see him get back to his best form at a short price.

Gulfstream Race 11 – #2 Forgotten Coast (8-1) gets back on turf for Vicki Oliver after getting rained off last time. Two back, he was pulled up after getting carried out very wide on the first turn. His two-back race is good and the G. Watts Humphrey home-bred is half to two six-figure turf earners.

Aqueduct Race 3 – #5 Tasteful (5-1) gets out to a mile on dirt for the first time and should be close to the moderate pace. She’s a nice alternative to the likely overbet #2 Boule (4-5), who was flat at 3-5 in a similar spot last time.
