Gulfstream Saturday Pick-4s

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – There are three Pick-4s on Saturday at Gulfstream, ones starting in Race 2, Race 6, and Race 10. We’re going to focus on the last two.

Our thoughts for most of these races can be found here (undercard) and here (Fountain of Youth).

Race 6Celestine (9-5) is the horse to beat (though not the morning line favorite) and My Sweet Girl (12-1) should get some pace and has a chance to spring the upset. We’re starting with just these two.

A – 8, 9
B – none
C – none

Race 7 – Suffused (9-5) is the one to beat but this might be a touch too short. We’ll go with Olorda (5-2) on top but used Suffused as an A. Try Your Luck (6-1) is a B.

A – 1, 3
B – 5
C – none

Race 8 – This is a wide-open maiden special weight race that we’ll have to bet into blind as far as this pick-4 goes (we won’t get to see odds our double probables when we have to place the bet). #13 Fayeq (6-1) is the top pick, a half to Rachel Alexandra for Kiaran McLaughlin. #11 Timeline (5-1) is by Hard Spun out of an unraced dam, but the second dam won the Go For Wand and Timeline debuts for Chad Brown here. #5 Giuseppe the Great (7-2) comes out of a fast maiden race (the fourth place finisher won here yesterday and confirmed the figure) and Nick Zito’s second time starters often improve. #8 Texican (10-1) debuts for Chad Brown and is half to a pair of six-figure earners. Finally, #1 Caviar Czar (4-1) debuts for Todd Pletcher but is a homebred that drew the rail.

A – 5, 11, 13
B – 1
C – 8

Race 9 – We’re leaning on Cowboy Culture here for the reasons noted in the stakes preview post.

A – 1
B – 9
C – 6

Here is the $54 play (DRF TicketMaker):

Let’s look at the late Pick-4, leading into the competitive Fountain of Youth. The key to the entire sequence is getting a price horse home in the wide-open first leg, the G2 Davona Dale.

Race 10 – This race is wide open. We are going to spread and try to get a price horse home, with our top pick being Champagne Problems (20-1). We’re using Modacious as an A horse as well with Miss Sky WarriorYes I’ll Go (12-1) ran a 90 Beyer in her lone start on a fast track. We’re skeptical but in a wide open race, we’ll use her too.

A – 3, 7, 9, 14
B – 5, 12
C – none

Race 11 – Heart to Heart (2-1) looks very tough as per usual. It doesn’t seem like there’s anyone to go with him and this is an easier field than he faced last time. We’ll back-up with Chad Brown’s Projected (3-1) making his US debut.

A – 3
B – 2
C – none

Race 12 – Mr Maybe (10-1) is our top pick but we’ll use Wake Forest (3-1) along with Taghleeb (5-1) and Patterson Cross (20-1) out of a solid, but maybe a bit weaker, McKnight.

A – 4, 6
B – none
C – 9, 12

Race 13 – Gunnavera (7-2) and Practical Joke (3-1) are the keys, with Gunnavera the top pick. We’ll use the favorite, Irish War Cry (5-2) and the dirt-debuting Made You Look (10-2) as Bs and toss in Takaful (12-1), who is obviously talented and will try to wire the field as a C.

A – 2, 6
B – 8, 9
C – 10

Good luck on what should be a spectacular day of racing here in Florida.
